about
When I started studying Arabic maqam, I would often feel a strange familiarity with some scales and melodies - they would remind me of the folk music of Norway. Here, I explore this relationship, composing in the maqam of Rast with expression inspired by Norwegian tunes. It also includes some nods to my favorite classical composers Bartok and Ravel.
